John "turn@round" walker MALE (Dallas TX)
Music Style: House
Played: Various Texas and South American venues / multi-room Raves
John Walker discovered electronic music in the early 90s after a friend turned him onto MARRS, Aphex Twin, and Moby. Growing up, John was exposed to a lot of country music, nuwave synth pop, and gospel. As a small child his love for music was nurtured and began to flower in church choir, where his mother was the director.
In 1998 he adopted the nickname “Turn@round” and began djing at local night clubs and one off parties in Dallas. His energy behind the decks pushed him into the limelight, and soon after he was playing at large multi-room raves like Meltdown 3 and Massiv. Since the early days he has had headlining gigs all over Texas and has traveled as far as South America to spread his message from inside the dj booth.
«the process itself, for me, is a way to fill a void, express emotions»
As his skill to move the dance floor flourished, John gained an interest in music production; he credits his mentoring to the likes of Josh Kynd, JD Northrup, and Sean Anderson. After months of working to master the tools of the trade, John had his first release, The Turn@round EP, on Fair Park. This record received positive press in XLR8R magazine in March of 2004 and has been getting heavy rotation from DJ Heather and the likes.
When asked what keeps him going on the music tip, he replied “… Passion for the music and my family are my two main creative drives. The process itself, for me, is a way to fill a void, express emotions that I can not explain, and achieve personal enlightenment...”
John Walker currently resides in Dallas with his wife, Crystal, and his son, Patchen.

Music Style: House and Techno
Played: Art In Progress- Greece, Bogus and 20/11 in Hyper Bar (Mexico-US) Soda or Loco Mosquito
DJ Boronas began as DJ in the end of the 90's following a break beat and intelligent drum& bass way. He played in various parties and events in lots of bars such as Soda or Loco Mosquito and continued as resident DJ in the bar Soda. Then, extending his musical horizons, he turned more into House and Techno sounds, building his name in the club scene of the city thanks to his flawless mix technique and the very particular range of his non common record library. In 2000 he creates Electric Pulse together with DJ Pale Penguin . They move to more dancing club situations and organize many parties in clubs in Thessaloniki and Athens . DJ Boronas also sets up an association with a new club in the city called Art-House as weekly resident. With his partner Pale Penguin, they create different and unique nights there.
He also plays once a month in the bar Art In Progress , where he prepares his special tech house nights. The Electric Pulse team organizes a series of events where they mix DJ sets with live instrumental performers such as percussion, saxophone or keyboard. They are also keen on using special visuals, which is kind of their personal touch they bring to each party. As these parties get more and more famous, they are presented in TV emissions, interviewed in magazines (like Tahydromos, Panselinos, Freeze and others), while at the same time they go on warming up the clubs for other big names of the club scene as Adam Beyer or Mr C . Following an original concept, they also organize a unique report with flyers from all over the world and inaugurate it with one unanticipated party.
In 2001 at the same time, Electric Pulse collaborates with other DJs, for the organization and presentation of other parties in Thessaloniki, Chalkidiki, Serres. In 2002 they present a mixed tech-house CD for the Freeze magazine and go on organizing parties in many clubs in Chalkidiki, Volos and Zakynthos.
In 2003 DJ Boronas at the same time gets his hands in music production and starts to create his own dance music tracks. In October 2003, he released his second mixed CD, Electric Dream , again for Freeze magazine, which has his personal signature of groovy tech-house vibes.

Ryan Morales MALE (New Jersey - US)
Music Style: House
Played: joeys nightclub NY, Spirit NY, VUE
Born in New York City, Ryan has made a mark with his music. He has become one of the most sought after DJ’s in the area due to his popularity and ability to please the masses. His ability to mix through many styles of music has helped with his success. As a child Ryan grew up listening to his native Colombian music and classic disco thanks to his parents. He had loved the music so much that his parents figured they should send him to get musical training. At age 7 he learned to play the piano. From there he decided to take up the drums at age 10. Finally as a freshman in H.S. he was introduced to the art of DJing. Apparently from his formal musical training DJing was second nature. He became a popular local DJ playing School events and private parties. His big break came his senior year when he became a resident DJ at NYC’s Limelight. For over 2 years Ryan was a staple there playing 3 nights every week till Limelight was closed down. DJing the NYC circuit Ryan made a name for himself and was ranked one of the top DJs in NYC at the time. Very soon after his high school graduation, he decided to take it to the next level and attended Institute of Audio Research in NYC. There he learned the basics to making the music he loved to play for his fans. After graduating Ryan interned at Logic records and began to make his contacts in the business. Later he began to book studio time to work on his projects. There he came across many producers that have helped him along the way such as Eddie Cumana (Dynamix) and B. Darius (Fugees). Ryan teamed with Darius when he was given his first opportunity to do his first remix of Tracie Spencer’s “Still in My Heart” by his friend Mauro Decegli who work for Capitol Records. Since that day Ryan has work with artist such as Wyclef Jean, Milky Sedeck, & many urban artists doing production for them. Leaving the urban scene after a few years, Ryan built his project studio to work on solo projects and dance remixes. Ryan has done remixes for many artist including Depeche Mode, Lenny Kravitz, Sarina Paris, Deelite, Sean Paul, Lumidee, Kosheen, Mpress, and most recently dance diva Jana. Ryan’s work on Jana’s “Found a Love” won them a Nammy for Female Artist of The Year in 2003. Now after 14 years of being in the game Ryan has teamed up with long time friend Ralph Monte to form RM² (pronounced RM squared). For the fall of 2004 they will be releasing their new tracks which have had a huge buzz in the industry since the Winter Music Conference.

DJ Garry Anthony MALE (UK)

Played: The Edge (Coatbridge) Glasgow, Espionage Edinburgh, City Nightclub Edinburgh, The Shed Glasgow, The Garage Nightclub Glasgow, Nightlife San Antionio Ibiza, Toff Toff Es Cana Ibiza, Mojam Glasgow
The late nineties for Garry brought forth the start of a new and exiting interest. Garry has been a regular visitor to dance events such as Inside Out and pressure at the Arches, Colours events, and his all time favourite Hed Kandi events. Garry started out on the decks in 1999 where all wannabe djs start in the bedroom. Taking to it like a duck in water he knew he could take it further. Quickly realising that he had turned non-existent mixing talent into a passable one, the time to leave his bedroom had finally arrived. My first gig was in a small pub in Kirkintilloch where he played funky house music and his talents where appreciated and started to build a crowd each Saturday night. >From this he started making demos and posting them off right left and center. Eventually Garry was picked up by G1 group where he was given his 1st residencey The "Edge" in Coatbridge where he am still present. From this his unique style of music was growing on people and the funky house style had hit Coatbridge. His style is soulful US house, funky vocal house, deep house and also chunky but funky house. he can now be found spinning vinyl from the likes of Pound Boys, Jon Cutler, Audiowhores, Full Intention, Joey Negro, Jose Nunez, Basement Jaxx, he was then shown an opening with CPl promotions in the Shed and Garage in Glasgow city center as guest mixes.

Party With The Darkness in Rolling Stone – Tour Launches March 26
Want to party like a rock star with a rock star? Well you'd better get a job at Rolling Stone, because they've launched a new nightlife section in their February 19th issue, and The Darkness are the featured band for the kick-off. Tag along as The Darkness (and a couple Rolling Stone writers and photographer) hop bars and cut velvet ropes at some of NYC's premier places, including Bungalow 8, Crobar, the Whisky and more. The Darkness also school RS in an ever-popular English tradition, the metal band that plays soccer. Not surprisingly the Darkness won.
In addition to some priceless quotes from the Darkness ('there are so many starving people in the world that could really do with that Special Brew'), the Rolling Stone feature gives tips on getting price breaks at clubs, and managing the perilous club scene doormen.
And there is one way you can hang out with the Darkness, see em perform! They've got newly announced tour dates launching March 26th in Milwaukee and running through April 19th in Denver. This tour is revitalizing real rock, don't read about it months from now, be part of it now.

The Darkness and Black Eyed Peas Get Retarded Together
If you thought Papa Roach and Black Eyed Peas was on odd combination on the 'Elephunk' album, then their next collaboration may sound equally as bizarre. Justin Hawkins from The Darkness has been playing with BEP at the Big Day Out.
When the two acts met, it wasn't exactly on friendly terms. "At first there was a bit of weirdness between us and them in London," said BEP's Will I Am. "Our songs were at radio at the same time and we kept them out of the number one spot for about seven weeks. They are from the UK. It felt kind of weird. We didn't gel at first. The more we saw them at awards ceremonies and big awards we kind of joked around with them and became acquaintances. So on this tour its like "Hey, what's up Justin?" and he said we should do a song together. I thought "A song with The Darkness? That would be pretty cool." He comes up to me and said he wanted to jump on stage with us so I told him to come on during 'Retarded' because that is the perfect song."
The newfound friendship may even go as far as a collaboration on the next Black Eyed Peas album. They are certainly thinking about who they may work with on the 4th album, already titled 'Monkey Business'. "Beyoncé, she is really nice," adds Taboo. "The Darkness, those dudes are really cool. Hopefully, Coldplay. We met them on Big Day Out 2001 and have become cool friends. We've been hanging out with Will Champion on the first half of the Big Day Out tour. I have a clothing line called I Am Clothing and Will Champion wore some of my pieces at the MTV Music Awards in America. That might come to fruition."

Darkness Announces U.S. Tour Dates – PERMISSION TO LAND Continues Breakthrough Assault
The Darkness has announced the dates for their first full-blown cross-country U.S. tour. The headlining itinerary is slated to begin on March 26th in Milwaukee and run through April 19th [itinerary below]. The announcement comes as the U.K. band is breaking through in the U.S. with burgeoning sales, rapidly building radio and video play, and major media and online coverage.
In only its fourth week on the Billboard 200 chart, the Darkness's debut album, PERMISSION TO LAND, leapt to #39 with a bullet, and it has now scanned over 165,000 copies. The band's current single, 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' is now on the air in more than 30 major markets across the country. The song is impacting heavily at both Alternative and Rock formats, and is being played at multiple radio stations in numerous cities. It is slated to go for adds at pop radio outlets the first week of February.
The companion video for 'I Believe?' has jumped into 'Big 10' rotation at MTV, is the #1 most-played clip and in 'Blowtorch/Buzzworthy' rotation at MTV2, is among the top ten Most-Streamed Videos on MTV.com, is in 'Large' rotation at VH1, and can also be seen on FUSE.
The band's media coverage continues to rise exponentially. Writing in New York's Daily News on Tuesday, January 20th, Jim Farber commented: 'Can this be the new face - and voice - of rock 'n' roll?? the scourge is spreading stateside - and fast? the group is the first major breakout act of 2004.' The combo's singer, Justin Hawkins, is currently on the cover of Spin magazine's 'The Next Big Things' issue (February), and the band is slated for numerous upcoming national magazine features. Rolling Stone, Blender, Spin, Details, and Revolver have all named the band as one of the best of 2003 in year-end polls. On January 9th, The Darkness made their national live network television debut on 'The Late Show with David Letterman.'
In the online world, The Darkness has been named the Launch/Yahoo 'Emerging Artist of the Month' for February. The feature will be supported with an exclusive live performance and interview. In addition, the band's recent Seattle performance will be broadcast as part of Real Networks' 'Down The Alley' series in March. The Darkness has also been receiving extensive coverage across the AOL Music network, with more events to be announced soon.
At the same time that The Darkness is breaking through in the U.S., the band continues to earn acclaim in their native England. The combo leads the field for the 2004 BRIT Awards, with four nominations: British Group, British Rock Act, British Album, and British Breakthrough Artist.

The Darkness Bring '...Love' to Guitar World and Bass Player Magazines
Don't let the catsuit distract you, Brit-bred band The Darkness are 100 percent serious about their rock and roll. The first single, 'I Believe in A Thing Called Love,' from PERMISSION TO LAND, is also being taken seriously at MTV. The clip has been deemed 'buzzworthy,' is in heavy rotation, and it's this week's 'pacesetter' on the Billboard Charts. Lead singer Justin Hawkins explained the appeal of 'I Believe in A Thing Called Love' to Guitar World, 'A lot of bands today try to be edgy and cryptic about it [love] and never actually say the word, but the word says more than anything else.'
Guitarist Dan Hawkins goes on to tell Guitar World about 'I Believe in A Thing Called Love.' It began as 'one of those things that makes you laugh like we shouldn't be doing this' but later, 'we worked it out with the band, it was so obvious it's a good song that we saw it through to completion.' The Hawkins also talk guitars, chords, and even include a music lesson on how to play '...Love,' so hit the newstands to get schooled
For his part, bassist Frankie Poullain tells Bass Player mag in their February issue, 'As far as I'm concerned, it's all about the band's chemistry. You can have the most technically proficient individual players in the world, but if the chemistry isn't there, it isn't worth s**t. I mean, there are spots on our album where things speed up and slow down, but you can't question our chemistry.'
Feel the '...Love' firsthand at this link. |

Virtually no one in the UIK record industry wanted to know them a year ago. But The Darkness are now in the midst of the fastest British breakthrough Stateside since the Spice Girls.
The band’s debut album Permission To Land has capitalised on TV support, alternative and rock radio airplay and a relentless round of promotion to move 17392-39 on the Billboard 200 in the past two weeks, to leave them on the verge of significant chart success. The album SoundScanned 26,000 copies a week ago, its highest weekly sales tally to date in the US.
Although countless other UK artists have failed to convince our American cousins of their own greatness in the past decade, the band who were written off as a joke by many at the start of 2003 seem to have had less trouble translating their appeal with New York’s K-Rock immediately playlisting them last autumn after seeing the band at the city’s Bowery Ballroom.
How they have managed it is at least partially down to a simple hard-work ethic, according to their record company East West’s managing director Korda Marshall. “This will be their fifth trip to the US in the past 12 months and they have the right attitude to succeed specifically in the US - the States didn’t get that whole Madchester and dance thing and now is the right time for a band such as The Darkness to break through there,” he says.
With the pop radio add date for the track I Believe In A Thing Called Love still to come on February 2, the band have also yet to bring their particular brand of high-octane rock to the heartland of the States with a tour of America’s “rust belt” from March 24 to April 20 following a headlining European tour.
The Darkness played shows in New York, Chicago and LA in September of last year and most recently raised their profile with an appearance on the David Letterman show and an in-store performance at Virgin Megastores’ Times Square store. Virgin Entertainment Group North America senior VP product & marketing Dave Alder says, “The Darkness are number three on our chart showing there is a real opportunity for British bands to perform well on sales.”
CEO Glen Ward says, “They are great - to some extent it has still been quite an underground thing, but I think it’s a shame they didn’t put out the Christmas single here. We will keep pursuing it.”
Warner UK senior international manager David Wille adds, “I feel vindicated that we said we had to break this act in the States and we are now doing that.”
He adds, “They played east and west coasts and are now doing the middle and will be back again in May and June.”
Wille acknowledges the band have turned around initial scepticism from radio audiences with calls to some early supporting stations drawing scathing reactions. Listeners were converted after stations stuck with the single.
K-Rock operations manager Rob Cross says, “We played it one time, people hated it, saying ‘what is this hair metal crap’. We stuck with it for a month and people went from ‘it’s not that bad’ to ‘I’ve got to hear it’.
Cross adds, “They have zigged where the rest of the music world has zagged and I believe they are less than a month away from crossing to pop.”
Boston’s WBCN, Chicago’s Q101 and Atlanta’s 99X are also among some of the key radio supporters. And Atlantic co-president Craig Kallman notes Baltimore’s IYY and MTV have been key supporters.
Now continued play from VH1, MTV2, MTV Buzzworthy support since December and critical support and coverage from the press including Spin, Blender, Nylon and Rolling Stone magazines are being converted into sales. Meanwhile the British rock community watches with interest.

THE DARKNESS SET TO LIGHT UP LETTERMAN TOMORROW;
VIRGIN MEGASTORE PERFORMANCE TODAY;
DEBUT ROCKETS UP BILLBOARD ALBUM CHART
Atlantic sensation The Darkness is slated to perform on CBS-TV's The Late Show With David Letterman tomorrow night (January 9th), marking their live U.S. television debut. It's a triumphant return to New York City for the acclaimed British combo, whose last trips across the pond resulted in sold-out appearances at Irving Plaza and The Bowery Ballroom which have since become the stuff of legend. The band will also play live at the Times Square Virgin Megastore today (January 8th) at 6pm, and immediately following their performance cruise uptown to the Ed Sullivan Theatre for the Letterman taping.
This week, the band's debut album, "PERMISSION TO LAND," leapt an incredible 81 spots on the Billboard 200. Cracking the top 100 and landing at the 92 position in only its third week on the chart, the album has scanned over 120,000 copies. The jump was spurred in part by a groundswell of listener support at radio for the album's single, "I Believe In A Thing Called Love." The track is Top 5 in requests in twenty major markets across the country, including New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, and Philadelphia, and is impacting heavily at both Rock and Alternative formats. It is slated to hit pop radio outlets the first week of February. In addition, the companion video is in "Buzzworthy" rotation at MTV, and a half-hour concert feature has been running regularly on MTV2. The band will make an appearance on MTV's Headbanger's Ball this Saturday, January 10, at 10pm.
Music critics have seen the light as well, with Rolling Stone, Blender, Spin, and Details all naming the band as one of the best of 2003 in year-end polls. In February, The Darkness will appear on the cover of Spin's "Next Big Things" issue, and will be the subject of a feature in Rolling Stone.
The Darkness have been widely hailed as 2003's most exciting new rock 'n' roll band, cranking out an irresistible - and unapologetic - blend of anthemic rock and sheer showmanship, complete with virtuoso guitar solos, killer hooks, and massive sing-along choruses.
Fuelled by a trio of remarkable singles - "I Believe In A Thing Called Love," "Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman," and "Growing On Me" - "PERMISSION TO LAND" made an extraordinary chart debut upon its July 2003 U.K. release, crashing in at #2. Its subsequent ascension to the #1spot made "PERMISSION TO LAND" the first debut album by a British artist to hit the top spot since Coldplay in 2000. |

'Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)' is released today, Monday 15 December through Must Destroy/Atlantic Records and when you hear it you’ll wish it could be Christmas every day.
In the immortal words of Sir Brian Of May, "But what about the Christmas shopping? A mounting feeling of dread! Ah, I know – I'll just go out and buy up all the copies of The Darkness' Christmas single I can find. It'll serve many purposes, because everybody I know will like it for their present, and it'll propel it to the number one position in the chart, proving once and for all that the public will no longer stand for the TV manipulation of those purveyors of pre-wrapped garbage of the Pop Idol variety. Of course it may all be an insane dream..."
We couldn't have put it better ourselves..! |

The Darkness are delighted to announce the release of their first music book – also released today, Monday 15 December. Published by International Music Publications Ltd., apparently demand for the book has been unprecedented. According to IMP, "We have never had this sort of advance interest in a folio for a debut album folio by anyone. The shops have clearly had so many demands from customers that they have been primed for a book for sometime, the blend of old school rock god styling, theatrics and extremely well-crafted songs transfer perfectly to print – everyone wants to play these songs in their bedrooms!
The music book is highly unusual for the fact that it not only includes every song from Permission To Land but also all of the B-Sides and 'Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)'. It will also be the fastest book ever produced, from 'go for it' to release in about 4 and a half weeks. A guitar book is usually transcribed by a single person; Permission To Land had 4 people working on the book. Basically this book has already broken records.
The book retails at £19.95 and is on sale at all good record shops now. It's likely to be an immediate sell out! |

THE DARKNESS RELEASE CHRISTMAS SINGLE – YULE LOVE IT!
Santa Claus is coming to town and the most precious gift he brings you all is the Christmas single from the biggest band of the year, The Darkness.
'Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)' is released through Must Destroy/Atlantic Records on 15 December and when you hear it you’ll wish it could be Christmas every day.
Says frontman Justin, "In honour of the marvellous support bestowed upon us by the sweet people of the British Isles, we giveth unto thee the gift that keeps on giving. It might be a Christmas song but it still rocks in the unique Darkness fashion."
"'Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)' is not an anthem for gluttony, consumerism or bloated, flatulent post-dinner snoozing. It is an acknowledgement that 'tis the season which affords us a greater tolerance and brings folk together."
2003 has undoubtedly been the year of The Darkness and it is safe to say they are walking in the air. Their number one album, 'Permission To Land' sat at the top of the charts for 4 weeks this summer, has gone triple platinum in the UK and has sold over a million worldwide.
After a short international jaunt, seeing them make massive waves in the US and Japan, the band are driving home for Christmas to play the already sold out 'Elf Hazard' tour (see thedarknessrock.com/live for dates).
In 2004 they are back out internationally to feed the world taking in Australia and Europe before returning to the US.
The Darkness wish you all a Rock N’ Roll Christmas! |

The Darkness Bring It Back Home
On Monday 1 December, The Darkness are delighted to come home to play an invitation only Carling Homecoming show at the Marina Centre in Great Yarmouth.
What a difference a year makes. On 1 December 2002, the band were playing as a support act,
365 days later they stand with the bookie’s favourite for the Christmas #1 single and their second totally fucking sold out UK tour ahead of them. In the past 8760 hours they’ve been up to the following:
- A legendary appearance at the Glastonbury festival
-
Played in front of 375,000 people at the record-breaking Knebworth Park shows with Robbie Williams
-
Toured through Europe with The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple and Meat Loaf
-
Stole the show at the Leeds and Reading festivals
- Sold out every single show of their UK nationwide tour in October
- Received an ecstatic welcome in the US and Japan
- #1 debut album Permission To Land
- #2 single I Believe In A Thing Called Love
- Won a clutch of awards
The Darkness have always been aware of their roots, as guitarist Dan Hawkins pointed out,"It’s where we’re from and we’re kinda proud of it". It’s therefore typical of the band that at the end of a fantastic year that has seen them play to audiences all over the world they should return to play a homecoming show for their local fans.
The Darkness' Carling Homecoming takes place on Monday 1 December at:
The Marina Centre, Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
NR30 2ER
Doors open 19:30. |

We have heard reports that a number of counterfeit tickets for The Darkness' current tour are in circulation – worrying but not suprising given the tour's popularity! If you have bought your tickets through this site (from cclive.co.uk) or any other authorised retailer you do not need to worry about the validity of your tickets.
We know many of you have been forced to resort to ticket touts as the shows are all sold out, we would urge those that do to exercise discretion or consider using the online ticket trading service at Scarlet Mist instead. Official 'souvenir' tickets are marked with a special 'D' hologram; please be vigilant.
Also, we understand that the Krazy House nightclub in Liverpool is advertising Saturday 18 October as 'The Darkness Aftershow Party' featuring 'celebrity DJs'. The band will not, in fact, be appearing (or DJing) at the club – though they are, of course, appearing at the Academy that evening for their own sold-out show! |

The Darkness have achieved their highest chart entry to date – and that week's highest new entry – with their single 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' debuting at #2 in the UK Top 40. The single narrowly missed out on the top spot, with the Black Eyed Peas' 'Where Is The Love' hanging on for one more week.

More than 500 Kerrang! readers saw The Darkness open the UK's biggest heavy rock ceremony, the Kerrang! Awards yesterday. Fireworks lit the stage at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel as they performed their next single, 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'. Their début album 'Permission To Land' is in its sixth week in the top 10 after peaking at number two and going gold.
The Darkness were the only band to win two awards at the magazine's 10th annual ceremony. They won Best Album (for 'Permission To Land') and Best Live Act – but missed out on a hat trick as Welsh beat combo Funeral For A Friend bagged best British newcomer. Collecting the award for Best Live Act, guitarist Dan Hawkins said: "It's absolutely fantastic. It's been a great evening."
Feeder won Best British Act – and dedicated it to their former drummer Jon Lee, who died last year. Nu-metal band Linkin Park won Best International Act while veteran rockers Metallica were inducted into the magazine's Hall Of Fame alongside previous inductees like Ozzy Osbourne, Queen, AC/DC and Iggy Pop.
A new award, for the Spirit Of Rock, was introduced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the awards and was won by MTV show Jackass. The best single award went to four-piece Good Charlotte for 'Lifestyles Of The Rich And The Famous' while the Red Hot Chili Peppers took the Classic Songwriter trophy and Evanescence won Best International Newcomer. |

So you'll know by now (won't you?) that The Darkness have been nominated in three categories (Best British Newcomer, Best Live Act, and Best Album for 'Permission To Land') in this year's Kerrang! Awards – the only band to have achieved the feat. Kerrang! have granted Radio 1's Rock Show the honour of an online vote at the show's web site. At the time of writing, the band are trailing in third, behind Million Dead (who?) and label-mates Funeral For A Friend, so get voting! The Darkness need you!

The Darkness appear on the cover of this month's [August] issue of Rock Sound magazine, with a six-page feature on the band within its hallowed pages. And there's more – the original version of 'Love On
the Rocks With No Ice' (which you won't find anywhere other than eBay these days...) is on the cover-mount CD. |

The folks over at 'Auntie' BBC are going Darkness crazy. First BBC Southampton's intrepid reporter Indy Almroth-Wright (pictured) interviewed them and, suitably inspired, won the South West England Air Guitar competition performing to 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'. (She'll appear n the UK Air Guitar finals in September.) Then Frankie 'Bass Warrior' Poullain was interviewed by Linda Serck at BBC Berkshire in the run up to August's Carling Live Festival at Reading. And last, but by no means least, Rachel Binns at BBC Norfolk interviewed Ed 'Pocket' Graham on the roots of their rock. |

Slightly earlier than anticipated, The Darkness will be playing 3 sold out nights at Knebworth Park this summer. The band will be playing to an estimated 325,000 people over the 3 nights of 1st, 2nd and 3rd August. The 'Stately Home of Rock' that is Knebworh Park made its name in the Seventies with shows by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Queen. As the ever eloquent singer Justin Hawkins puts it:
"A band of our ilk is genetically determined to achieve the honour of performing at Knobwerth. It's in our DNA. We've waited years for this opportunity and we're truly grateful and honoured to have been invited!. Treading those hallowed boards will have as much emotional impact for me as stepping out on to the pitch at St James' Park has for a geordie soccer enthusiast"
Oh, and Robbie Williams, Kelly Osbourne and Ash will be playing all 3 nights too... |

Xfm have just announced a new competition which – should you win – will get you into the Xfm studios with The Darkness. They'll be playing live on the Zoë Ball show, where they previously played an exclusive live set after they rocked last year’s Hot Rockin’ Xmas Session. You and a friend could be there to see them play and meet them afterwards.
To be in with a chance of winning, you just need answer a stupidly easy question (the answer to which you can probably find elsewhere on this site). So what are you waiting for? Get in! |

The Darkness have picked up their first gong in an award that was voted for by the fans, for the fans – that means you! They won in the Screw Avril, This Is What I Call A Proper Song (Best Single) category at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2003 with 'Get Your Hands Off My Woman'.
Appearing at The Forum in Kentish Town to accept the award (pictured right), Justin Hawkins delivered a gracious speech in which he thanked Metal Hammer, the fans and the good people at Must Destroy Music for releasing the single in the first place.
The band went on to spend the rest of the evening celebrating in a debauched fashion. |

As you may have read in this week's issue of Kerrang! magazine, The Darkness have inked their record deal with Mushroom Records.
The band collected their over-sized cheque made out for "three pints of lager and a vodka, lime and soda" dressed as 18th-century noblemen, and signed their contract with quills "because they could".
In a strange twist of fate, the courier despatching the cheque crashed and ended up in hospital though he wasn't seriously injured. Something to do with the "13-13-13" sort code or the fact that it was cheque number "000666" perhaps?
Meanwhile, in a pre-world domination break on the Greek island of Kos, the captain of Team Darkness, Justin Hawkins, deputised in goal for the resort football team, and kept a clean sheet through over two hours of open play a feat that earned him a medal for 'best player of the week'.
The Darkness release their new single, 'Growing On Me' on July 16, and their album 'Permission To Land' on July 7 via Must Destroy/Mushroom Records. Look out for the video previewed in Kerrang! on all your favourite music channels. |

As you may (or may not) know, The Darkness are currently neck-and-redneck with Stone Sour in the Metal Hammer people's vote for 'Best Single' (subtitled Screw Avril, This Is What I Call A Proper Song Award...) for 'Get Your Hands Off My Woman'.
We hardly need tell you it'd be a great coup for the band if they won the award with only their second ever single. So get voting! You'll have to fill in some other categories with bands you might not like – or even have heard of – but it's all for a good cause! Here's the link...

SOCCER SIX RESULTS
Team Darkness – consisting of Justin Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, Frankie Poullain, 5-a-side team linchpin Terry Rice, co-founder and co-editor of Viz Simon Donald and Geordie comic Gavin Webster – battled through the group stages after being left with no substitutes after the defection of Hollyoaks mercenary Marcus Patrick.
Going through to the quarter-finals thanks to a superior goal difference, the highlights of the tournament were a 3-1 trouncing of reality show losers OneTrueVoice and free-scoring Justin Hawkins' lap of honour in front of the hordes of baying Blue fans.
Finally losing out after a spirited performance against RnB wannabes 'VS', Team Darkness have promised to return to the Soccer Six tournament next year boasting greater strength in depth! |

NEW SINGLE - “GROWING ON ME”
The Darkness have not only claimed their place at the peak of British Rock, they stuck their flag firmly in its eye.
Fresh from a trailblazing headline tour and blowing a sold out Astoria to pieces, The Darkness, return with their new single "Growing On Me", released on Monday 16 June through Must Destroy Music. It is the follow-up to the Top 40 dallier, "Get Your Hands Off My Woman". The single also features two new tracks “How Dare You Call This Love?” and “Bareback”.
This single precedes the bands as yet untitled outstanding debut album, released Monday 7 July.
The band were the toast of Texas at this year's SXSW after playing the British stage to a room packed with rock frenzied Americans and Industry alike. The band will be playing the Main Stage at Download Festival at Donington where Justin plans to realise a life long ambition of being fired out of a cannon.

The Darkness have emerged from the SXSW music conference in Austin, Texas, with all but their livers intact. An intense week of premiership boozing with several key members of "Team Darkness" was marked with a glorious display of UK rock at the British showcase at the Blender Bar on 6th Street last Friday, March 14. The show, complete with Justin's fabled costume change and customary "walkabout" atop the shoulders of producer/sound engineer Pedro(ck) Ferreira, was considered by many to be the best of the entire conference.
Many thanks to Chicago's finest, The Webb Brothers, who aside from putting on a great showcase themselves kindly released singer/guitarist Justin Webb to provide some excellent guitar tech-ing duties for Justin. |

So, as you may or may not know, The Darkness narrowly missed the Top 40, going in at 43! This is an incredible chart placing for what is only their second single, and betters efforts from established, million-selling acts like LeAnn Rimes, Tom Jones and Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds. If you haven't already bought the single, what are you waiting for? Christmas? |

'Get Your Hands Off My Woman' was released on Monday and has exceeded all expectations and encroached on the midweek top 40 of the Hit Parade, achieving position 36! Thanks to all those of you who have bought it already.
For those of you still intending to buy it, the end of the week is a time when children randomly purchase the cynical output of 'turns' like Will & Gareth, whilst the real 'artists' miss out. WE MUST NOT LET THIS HAPPEN. Let's have some decent music back in the charts. In HMV, the single is great value at only £1.79 – if you buy it before Sunday your purchase will contribute to our final chart position – it's in your hands – let's make it memorable! |

*SINGLE OUT MONDAY*
The new single, "Get Your Hands Off My Woman", will be in the shops from Monday 24 February as The Darkness prepare to leap from the trenches and charge towards the charts. "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" has been awarded Kerrang! single of the week and stands an outside chance of encroaching on the Top 40 of the Hit Parade. If we all pull together and buy our copies during the week of release, ie before Sunday, we might just make it. Let's give it a shot. Available on CD and limited 7".
SXSW
America is bracing itself for the triumphant return of The Darkness. Following a memorable visit to the continent last year with shows in LA and at the SXSW music festival in Austin Texas, The Darkness are set to return with a much anticipated performance on the British Stage at The Ritz on 6th Street on Friday 14 March at 9.00pm.
BREAKING HEARTS AND TOES
The first LEG of the Def Leppard tour KICKED off in typical Darkness style – Justin broke his toe in a vain attempt to STAMP his authority on the post-gig proceedings which traditionally consist of fruit-throwing, fisticuffs and furniture destroyage. Justin had had one TOE many, and amidst the mayhem, Frankie's bass guitar also KICKED the bucket, suffering a broken neck. The Darkness' rockin' road TRIP with Def Leppard represents a huge STEP up for the band and so we have appointed our very own rock doctor to admininster near-lethal pain-killing injections to the toe prior to each performance. Justin has earned little sLIMPathy from the rest of The Darkness, who are HOPPING mad, and insist that HEEL have to FOOT the bill for these shenaKNEEgans, which is HOBBLEy for the best... Sorry.
HEADLINE TOUR
The Darkness are set to embark on their own headline tour of the UK at the end of March. We are honoured to announce that main support will be provided by the legendary Ten Benson, of whom The Darkness are keen enthusiasts. Video Video Video
We've had a terrific response to our Video Shoot campaign, and we're delighted to announce that we can now confirm that the shoot will take place between 4pm10pm this Sunday 19th January 2003
at the Mean Fiddler, 165 Charing Cross Road, London, WC2 just round the corner from Tottenham Court Road tube station.
When you and your friends arrive at the venue, you will be asked to reveal a password in order to gain entry. Reply to this e-mail with "What's the password?" in the subject line, and we'll respond within 24 hours with the magical entry phrase. We urge you to veil the password in secrecy, so as to avoid having to eject non-rock loving folk on the big day!
As mentioned in our previous transmission, you are strongly encouraged to dress up (think glamorous, think leather, think cross-dressing, think groupies). There will be Darkness merchandise giveaways for those sporting the most outstanding regalia. The Director, John Sadleir has perused the replies to our original mailout and will be contacting some of you directly with a view to casting those in costume more prominently.
To combat the monotony of frequent make-up breaks, tantrums and so on, Justin will be on hand to warm up your cockles, with a combination of DJing and chat. We'll do our best to keep you amused!
Yours with thanks for your continued support

You and your friends are cordially invited to participate as audience members for the video shoot which will probably take place in a cool London venue on Sunday 19th January.
We need you to dress up and rock out! The most outrageously-dressed fans will feature more prominently in the final cut. Think glamorous, think leather, think cross-dressing, think groupies and so on and so forth.
Details of times, venue etc will be available shortly but in the meantime, if you fancy stealing the show whilst your friends make up the numbers, reply to this e-mail with your contact details and give us an idea of how many people you can bring. The more the better.

Xmas Newsletter 2002
Season's Greetings from the country's leading rock combo, The Darkness.
2002 has been a veritable rollercoaster ride, taking in all-conquering shows at South By South-West in Austin, Texas and The Roxy in LA, The Wildhearts main support tour, E.P release, and feverish attention from the likes of Jo Whiley, Xfm, Dazed&Confused, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, PlayLouder, Drowned In Sound and Elton John!
We've seen The Darkness' merchandise flying off the stands at über-triumphant gigs, and watched the "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" E.P enter the charts, sell out and re-enter the charts after a second pressing, sell out again and re-re-enter the charts after a THIRD pressing!
A typical Darkness performance at Manchester and Salford's In The City music conference was rewarded with a headline slot at London's "The Best Of In The City" show, thus confirming The Darkness as the best of In The City. The Darkness were nominated for 2 awards following a spectacular TV debut on prestigious Welsh music show, "The Pop Factory" and kicked airwave back-side during live sessions for Radio 1 and Xfm. The Darkness bowed out of 2002 with a performance of such ferocity at the Xfm Xmas Session that it has since become the stuff of legends.
All in all, it's been a great year.
2003 looks to be no less exciting, with the single "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" scheduled for release late February, which will coincide with a UK tour as support to the legendary Def Leppard, dates as follows 15 Newport Centre; 17 Portsmouth Guildhall; 19 Wolverhampton Civic Hall; 20 Sheffield Arena; 22 Newcastle City Hall; 23 Manchester Apollo; 24 Glasgow Barrowlands; 26 Ipswich Regent; 27 London Brixton Academy.
Work is complete on the debut album (as yet untitled), which will be licensed to Must Destroy Records for a summer release. We will be returning to South By South-West in March with a view to securing licences in other territories, ensuring a Darkness presence throughout the world. Brace yourselves for a year of heavy touring!
The Darkness wish to extend enormous gratitude to, and for the invaluable contributions of Pedro(ck) Ferreira, Robert "first on the payroll" Shaw, Ian Johnson & Alan Hake (& Tremendous Mike) of Must Destroy Records, Marc Brown, Adam Saunders, Andy Barding, and last, but by all means most, the enthusiasts, the connoisseurs, the experts, nay, the men and women of exquisite taste who appreciate our rock. We love you ALL.
Yours with best wishes for a rock-based Christmas and an even more rock-based New Year,
The Darkness xxx |

Pop Factory Music Awards
The Darkness are proud to have been nominated in 2 categories at the inaugural Pop Factory Music Awards 2002
. Our heroes provided the ceremony's climactic finale, but sadly, they narrowly missed out to Feeder for 'Best Pop Factory Performance' and to The Cooper Temple Clause for 'Best Pop Factory TV Debut'. During their show-stealing performances of live favourites "Black Shuck" and "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", Justin humbly pointed out that "WE WOZ ROBBED!" The Darkness' gracious acceptance of defeat will be aired on HTV Wales this Friday 29 November.

Darkness News
September was a veritable rollercoaster ride for The Darkness who emerged triumphant from Manchester & Salford's In The City conference, were awarded Jo Whiley's single of the week for "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" and thoroughly kicked arse during a 3-track live session transmitted by Radio 1. October shows no sign of letting up, having already taken in a gruelling tour of the UK as main support to the legendary Wildhearts, culminating in a jubilant, if slightly inebriated, performance at the Kerrang! Camber Sands Weekender (with The Darkness managing to salvage some dignity by narrowly defeating the Kerrang! marketing department 10-2 in a five-a-side football match thanks to five goals from Justin, four from Dan and a Frankie Poullain special). The band continue to record their long-awaited album.
DEBUT TV PERFORMANCE
The Darkness are scheduled to record for Welsh music show The Pop Factory on the evening of Tuesday 22 October. Anyone wishing to be included in the audience should visit www.gotpf.com for information and subsequently e-mail gotpf(at)thepopfactory(dot)com for tickets. The show is to be aired by HTV on 8 November.

Darkness News
September is shaping up to be every bit as hectic as August was for The Darkness. The month got off to a flying start with a knockout performance from the band to open the Musos Awards at Hackney Ocean on Tuesday last. The ceremony was attended by elite musicians from around the world who were treated to a mind blowing execution of live favourites I Believe In A Thing Called Love and Love On The Rocks With No Ice.
The gruelling tour finally grinds to a halt after the show at the Metro in Oxford Street TONIGHT, Friday 6 September. This will be the last London show for a while DON'T MISS IT. There will be a chance to catch the band live, however, at the Wrongfest music and comedy festival in Brentwood, Essex. They will be headlining on Saturday 14 September upstairs at the White Hart. For further information e-mail bob(at)sequin(dot)freeserve(dot)co(dot)uk.

MUSIC INDUSTRY 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Darkness, the only band in the Music Industry 5-A-Side League, have secured promotion to the premiership with second place in Division 2! The new season begins in October, but sadly this clashes with recording commitments, so our involvement remains to be confirmed.

Darkness News
This August continues to be the busiest month yet for The Darkness. Kerrang! will be dedicating a whole page to little ol' us next week to coincide with our single release. This comes hot on the heels of ten pages in this month's Dazed&Confused and our glamorous poster-feature in Circuit magazine. PlayLouder.com and Popex.com continue to show their support as do IndigoFlow.co.uk and DrownedinSound.com, both of whom reviewed our single and awarded the top mark available... 5/5! Also, check out this week's NME for another great single review.
DEBUT SINGLE
The "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" E.P is to be released next Monday 12 August. It's out on the Must...Destroy! label and will be available in all outstanding record shops and from our website www.thedarknessrock.com for only £3. Limited copies available so get in quickly.
Several radio DJs are playing the single, most notably John Kennedy of Xfm who currently lists it in his Top 5. Why not contact your favourite DJs and request a play?

MUSIC INDUSTRY 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Darkness, the only band in the music industry 5-a-side league, are currently holding second place in Division 2 and promotion looks certain with only 2 games remaining. Justin, Dan & Frankie are key members of the squad while Ed barks out tactical advice from the sidelines and washes the kit! Keep your fingers crossed for Darkness silverware!
